With the Xbox 360, Microsoft wants to dominate your home entertainment and be the center of your living room. Aside from their library of movies and T.V. shows, they added support for Netflix in the U.S. and Sky TV in the UK. Expanding their media reach, they have now added Canal+ in France. With this deal, Canal+ will bring live & on-demand services to the Xbox 360. Also, they will add 3,000 movies and TV shows and French Ligue 1 soccer games. So if you live in France, you now have a very good reason to pick up an Xbox 360.

It showed up first for the PS2/PS3, but now it’s ready to come out for another console. Sometime in August, Logitech is set to release their realistic Guitar Hero controller for the Xbox 360. The guitar is said to be a solid build featuring a wood neck, a rosewood fingerboard and metal frets. The guitar will also include a touch sensitive slider and boast a range of 30 feet. August NPD gaming results

It’s that time of the month again and the numbers you’ve been waiting for are here. Not showing any signs of a slowdown (maybe just a little), the gaming industry continues to pile up cash despite economic woes. For the month of August, the gaming industry saw a 9% increase to $994.8 million. Hardware sales generated $384.6 million with Nintendo once again dominating its competition. On the software side, boosted by Madden 09, an increase of 13% generated a total of $489.1 million. Console sales looked something like:

  • Nintendo DS: 518,300 units
  • Nintendo Wii: 453,000 units
  • Xbox 360: 195,200 units
  • PS3: 185,400 units
