A few days ago, LG announced their latest Windows Mobile handset the LG eXpo. A feature or rather an addon of this phone that really excited us was the optional pico projector. Over at PC Mag, they were able to put the phone and the projector to use and came up impressed with the quality. On a 10FT screen, the projector was very smooth displaying the Transformers 2 trailer. Unfortunately, this phone will be sold to business customers only. Check out the demo after the break.
With the introduction of the eXpo, LG adds another Windows Mobile device to their handset line up. Unlike most Windows Mobile devices, the LG eXpo packs a 1GHz processor, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, a built-in fingerprint sensor, and an optional pico projector. Other notable features include a QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and an FM radio. Landing on AT&T, the LG eXpo will available on December 7th for $199 with a 2-year contract and mail in rebate. As for the optional pico projector, you’ll have to shed $179.
You’ve seen how it works and you know about the specs, now it’s time to get your hands on one. According to UK retailer Clove, November 11 mark the availability of the unlocked, contract-free version of the HTC HD2. Price will be £469 ($739 US). Importing will be available shortly after, but the phone will be limited to only EDGE here in the United States, until the US version is released next year.
Before Windows Mobile 6.5 was launched, we were promised by Microsoft a slew of devices running the OS. Samsung is releasing another phone running the OS. The Samsung Intrepid has a 2.5″ touchscreen, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, and a microSD slot. The phone also has a dedicated speech button that allows for voice search using Microsoft’s Tellme. For $150, you should be able to pick this phone up on Sprint this Sunday. With the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft is starting an advertising campaign that aired yesterday in both the North America and Europe. Most apps on Windows Mobile you’ll be able to find on platforms such as the iPhone and Android, so with this campaign Microsoft is focusing on well known PC apps and services, such as Outlook, Office, and Twitter. Microsoft has also stated that a phone and a local carrier will be shown at the end of every advertisement. The ad above is the first in the series and it’s dubbed “Icons.”
It’s been rumored for a very long time that Microsoft was working on a new mobile project dubbed Pink. Headed by the Danger/Sidekick team that Microsoft acquired, Project Pink was supposed to incorporate Zune and debut other popular features currently absent from Windows Mobile. A few weeks ago, leaked images of what the phones could look like had many people scratching their head if Microsoft is serious about this. Today, MobileCrunch received news from a source who was either on the team or knows lots of info about Microsoft’s Project Pink. The source has stated that since the acquisition of Danger/Sidekick, most of the team has left or been fired.
With the official launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 penciled in for tomorrow, phones that are running Windows Mobile 6.5, such as the AT&T Pure, have been able to access the marketplace. At the time of launch, Microsoft has stated there will be 600 apps in the marketplace, however, it’s a much different story so far. While the number of apps is steadily increasing by the hour, the US has 173 apps so far and the UK has only 32 apps. Many others have been stating that apps installed via the marketplace can’t be installed on the storage card, which is a problem for phones with low internal storage.
