Toshiba developing printer system with erasable toner

Toshiba developing printer system with erasable toner

Toshiba printer

It may not be a paperless office solution, but Toshiba has unveiled a more efficient printing system that features erasable toner. By feeding the paper through an erasing device you expose it to heat, which turns the toner invisible. Each sheet can be reused around five times and you can use any kind of paper, though every other piece of the set-up is proprietary — including the Toshiba-made printer, eraser, and toner. The eraser also has a built-in scanner so that you can make copies of pages before erasing them, and it automatically sorts erased paper so you know whether or not a sheet can be reused. The company says it’s aiming for a winter release — presumably in Japan — though you may not want to grab one at launch, as the…

Toshiba announces Qosmio X870 gaming laptop for Q2

via www.techdigest.tv

Along with its business and media computers, Toshiba has added a new Qosmio gaming laptop to its 2012 line. The 17.3-inch Qosmio X870 is slated to arrive sometime in the second quarter of 2012. It will include a multitouch clickpad and 1920 x 1080 3D screen that’s supposed to have a 5ms response time, although it doesn’t seem to be using the glasses-free 3D of the Qosmio F755. You’ll also be getting a 2TB hard drive or a hybrid HDD / SSD.

Other hardware details are a bit vague so far, probably because it’s coming out around the purported launch of Ivy Bridge: the X870 will include the “latest Intel processors” and “next generation Nvidia GPUs.” An early hands-on by PC Pro praised the X870′s performance and sound, and even with red…

Western Digital and Toshiba trade hard drive tech, clearing the way for WD / Hitachi merger

Western Digital and Toshiba trade hard drive tech, clearing the way for WD / Hitachi merger

WD hard drive 500GB stock 640

Today, Western Digital just agreed to give Toshiba the equipment and intellectual property required to build consumer-grade 3.5-inch hard drives, but Toshiba won’t be paying in cash. In exchange, the Japanese storage company will give Western Digital a 2.5-inch HDD facility that’s been shut down since the Thailand flood disaster late last year. It sounds like a crazy deal, until you remember what’s at stake: Western Digital needed to divest part of its 3.5-inch hard drive business in order to satisfy the European Union’s conditions for a merger with Hitachi this year.

Since Seagate already bought Samsung’s hard drive business, the thought process went, a WD / Hitachi merger would leave the hard drive industry with only two major players…

Toshiba CES 2012 booth tour

Toshiba CES 2012 booth tour

Toshiba had a ton of products on display this year at the annual Consumer Electronics Show. The booth was chocked full of stunning new technology and we were blown away by several of the 3D products on display. Toshiba had its new line of Qosmio laptops with glasses-free 3D screens, glasses-free 3D TVs that were more impressive than the models we saw last year, and its Thrive and Excite X10 tablets were on display as well. We even had a chance to play a 3D game on a huge HDTV that was hooked up to a Qosmio laptop, which was a ton of fun. Check out all the highlights from Toshiba’s booth in our gallery below.
