Diamond Trust of London was in Nintendo approval for seven months

Diamond Trust of London was in Nintendo approval for seven months

Jason Rohrer’s ninth title, Diamond Trust of London for Nintendo DS, has been teased, tortured and tested since it snagged publisher Zoo Games in May last year. Nintendo has been checking out the master revision of Diamond Trust of London since October 2011, and now, seven months later, it’s approved for lift off. And publishing. Mostly publishing.

Rohrer says the lengthy process has a “non-disclosure-agreement-shrouded story” and that “negotiations” were involved, but Diamond Trust of London is now officially ready to roll, with one major catch: the title. It is now officially called Jason Rohrer with Music by Tom Bailey: Diamond Trust of London, a change that was necessary for Nintendo’s approval. Updates about publication are coming soon, Rohrer promises.

New Club Nintendo awards include Art Style: Pictobits, Urban Champion

New Club Nintendo awards include Art Style: Pictobits, Urban Champion

If you can’t wait to spend some of those coins, Nintendo is offering new rewards for its Club Nintendo program. Four new downloadable games have been made available for May, including a pair of 3DS titles and two WiiWare games.

Art Style: Pictobits is the frontrunner for our hard-earned coins, a delightful DSiWare puzzle game ported to the 3DS. Pictobits debuted next to Majora’s Mask, so you may not remember it. The other high-profile game is a 3DS port of Urban Champion, the first fighting game to appear on the NES and quite possibly the worst game to appear on the NES.

The two WiiWare games are Snowpack Park and Eco Shooter: Plant 3D. All four games will be available for download until May 31.

[Thanks, Dali.]

Nintendo predicts combined Wii U and Wii console sales of 10.5 million by March 31, 2013

Nintendo predicts combined Wii U and Wii console sales of 10.5 million by March 31, 2013

Nintendo isn’t breaking out hardware or software sales predictions for the Wii U just yet, unlike its other consoles. Instead, it’s masking said predictions by mixing them in with those of the Wii. Bizarre? Yes, bizarre.

Anyway, Nintendo’s looking at a combined total of 10.5 million hardware units moved between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013 for the Wii U and Wii. While we can’t parse the numbers, we can speculate based on the last fiscal year’s Wii hardware sales. So! Nintendo sold 9.84 million Wii units in fiscal 2012, meaning the Japanese console manufacturer either expects a sharp dropoff in Wii sales (likely) or a not-so-hot holiday for the Wii U (less likely).

The same bizarre conflation applies to software sales, with Nintendo predicting approximately 70 million units sold across both the Wii U and Wii consoles. And last year? The Wii moved 102.37 million software units. Not too shabby! So, again, Nintendo either expects a massive dropoff in Wii software sales (likely), or for Wii U software to not do super great between the console’s holiday launch and next March.

‘Majority’ of first-party 3DS and Wii U games to be sold digitally on Nintendo eShop

‘Majority’ of first-party 3DS and Wii U games to be sold digitally on Nintendo eShop

In a statement to Joystiq today, Nintendo offered more insight into its plan to distribute new 3DS and Wii U games digitally in addition to retail. It won’t just be select games like New Super Mario Bros. 2; according to the publisher, “The majority of Nintendo-published Nintendo 3DS games will have the same dual-distribution strategy. Likewise, the majority of Nintendo-published Wii U games will be available both as packaged products and as digital downloads starting on launch day.”

The statement also describes the retail availability of codes for these digital games, which are described as “16-digit codes” for the “Nintendo eShop.” So the Wii U’s store is going to be called the eShop, just like the 3DS’s, and use the same kind of codes. Between a unified store branding, availability of redeemable codes, and digital sales of full games, it looks like Nintendo is finally moving in the right direction in terms of the internet.

Now if it would only let you redeem those games to an account instead of a single 3DS. During last night’s presentation, Satoru Iwata said that the new downloadable 3DS retail games “will be stored in the consumer’s SD memory card and be playable only with the hardware to which it was downloaded so that, unlike how you can share the packaged software which are stored in game card format, the consumer cannot share the software with other Nintendo 3DS systems owned by other members of the family or friends.” In other words, they’ll operate just like eShop games operate now.
