Acer announces multitouch notebook,the Aspire 5738PG

Nowadays, touch and Windows seem to be everywhere (or soon will be) and Acer has introduced the 15.6-inch Aspire AS5738PG notebook to the mix. For $799.99, this machine will feature a multitouch capacitive screen to take advantage of Windows 7 Home Premium. Specs for the notebook include a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 512MB ATI Radeon HD4570 graphics card, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 802.11a/b/g/n, and four USB 2.0 ports. This notebook will be available October 22.

So you want multitouch to be a part of you daily computing, but don’t want your greasy hands all over your screen? With the latest prototypes Microsoft Research has going on, there might be a solution for you. At the UIST conference, Microsoft showed off five new mouse prototypes that are multitouch capable and some have no buttons at all. Each prototype utilizes a different method to deliver touch, whether it’s a camera or capacitive detection. A video demonstration of each mouse is after the break.
