The pinnacle of all human achievement, “Open Your Heart” from the Sonic Adventure soundtrack, is now available on iTunes, as are a plethora of other Sonic-related albums from across the breadth of time and space. The soundtracks to Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic CD and others can be yours for the paltry sum of $ 9.99 each, which is a small price to pay for 20 to 30 tracks per album of gloriously ridiculous nostalgia-metal.

Soundtracks for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 and Episode 2 will be available before too long, according to Sega. Head on through to the other side for a full list of what’s available now and how to get it.

iTunes Match reportedly going live in new European countries including Italy, Austria, and Greece

iTunes Match

Apple’s iTunes Match cloud music service is broadening its international reach, with the service reportedly going live in several new European countries. MacRumors reports that several readers in Italy, Austria, and Greece have had to agree to an updated iTunes terms and conditions document — which includes references to the service — while others have been able to sign up for iTunes Match outright. MacStories has posted screenshots from the Italian version of the service, which is shown as being priced at €24.99 a year. The site has also received reports from iTunes users in Bulgaria, Portugal, and Slovenia as well, all of whom claim to have seen the service come to life on their computers. There’s still no word from Apple, with…

iTunes 11 rumored to feature new iCloud and iOS 6 support; revamped App Store on the way

iTunes 11 rumored to feature new iCloud and iOS 6 support; revamped App Store on the way

iTunes 11 screenshot 9to5mac

iTunes 10 made its debut back in 2010, and according to 9to5Mac Apple is hard at work on the next major release of the software — and iOS 6 and iCloud support are said to be focal points. The site reports that most of the iTunes 11 development it has been privy to is focused on under-the-hood rather than cosmetic changes, but greater iCloud integration is said to be a standout feature. A dedicated iCloud control panel within iTunes will reportedly allow for direct management of iTunes in the Cloud content and device backups made to Apple’s cloud service, amongst other services. While such an inclusion would no doubt cause consternation amongst those that think iTunes is stretched too thin as it is, collecting iCloud management under a…

Flutter app brings Kinect-like gesture controls to iTunes, Spotify [video]

Flutter app brings Kinect-like gesture controls to iTunes, Spotify [video]

Microsoft’s wildly popular Kinect controller for the Xbox 360 brought motion-based controls to the masses when it launched in late 2010. While similar technology will be built into a variety of consumer electronics moving forward — especially HDTVs — Mac users now have access to a free app that will add gesture controls to their current OS X computers. Currently compatible with just two programs, iTunes and Spotify, the Flutter app for Mac allows users to control music and video playback by making hand gestures that are recorded and relayed by the PC’s built-in iSight camera. The app is an early alpha build, yet we found that it performs as described and it worked well even from a few feet away. Flutter is not yet available in the Mac App Store, but it can be downloaded for free directly from Bot Square’s website. A video showcasing the app follows below.

Rdio’s Wilson Miner: ‘iTunes is just a fancy CD changer’

Rdio’s Wilson Miner: ‘iTunes is just a fancy CD changer’

miner

Here at SXSW 2012, I met with Rdio’s head of design Wilson Miner to talk about the music service’s new redesign launched today. He explained the redesign has been in the works since the current version launched, and that the team started in earnest about a year ago. I asked about the shift from music apps of the past, like iTunes, that offered full control over metadata, ratings, and smart playlists. Miner said, “my collection is bigger than the iTunes Store was when it launched,” and explained the Rdio team has been working on many of these things — notably ratings. “iTunes is just a fancy CD changer,” Miner said, and taking these ideas from a desktop app where you’ve already curated your own collection to music services where you…

Apple may launch revamped iTunes Store, App Store later this year

Apple may launch revamped iTunes Store, App Store later this year

Apple may be working on an overhaul of its iTunes Store and App Store, according to 9to5Mac. Due to growing competition from music streaming services like Spotify and the growing popularity of Amazon’s online music store, the redesign of the iTunes Store is considered “a top priority for Apple.” The Cupertino-based company is looking to simplify the service and deliver a more user-friendly interface than the one afforded by its current design. The redesign will reportedly simplify content discovery, and it will “make the iTunes Store a much more engaging experience.” The revamped stores are reportedly scheduled to launch later this year.
