We’re going to level with you — this post is about more than the fact that the Louvre is now offering visitors 3DS-enabled guides. We’ve known that was coming since it was first announced last year. It’s great that visitors can take guided tours, listen to commentary, find their location and browse detailed 3D models of various works, but none of those things compare to the above photograph, in which Nintendo’s beloved Shigeru Miyamoto takes in some art.

Feel free to come up with a hilarious caption, or just drink in the childlike wonder.

The Louvre now offering Nintendo 3DS audio guides with built-in maps

Back in December, the Louvre announced plans to replace its audio museum guides with Nintendo’s 3DS consoles, as part of an attempt to appeal to more touchscreen-minded audiences. Today, the initiative launches in earnest, with the official release of the Audioguide Louvre-Nintendo 3DS. According to Nintendo, the new app comes replete with more than 700 audio commentaries and high-definition photos of the Louvre’s collection, as well as a detailed mapping function that allows visitors to identify their exact location within the expansive museum.

The guide also features a slew of 3D graphics and animations of select works and offers two themed tours — one focused exclusively on masterpieces, and a forthcoming, Egypt-centric itinerary…

Netflix offers details on its recommendation engine, says it guides 75 percent of viewership

Netflix offers details on its recommendation engine, says it guides 75 percent of viewership

Netflix genre recommendation

Netflix has taken to its blog to post part one of an exploration into its recommendation engine. The company offers little in terms of hard data and algorithms (those are promised for part two), but the writeup does highlight just how many different things are “recommendations” on the website. It’s not just the “Top 10″ list that the algorithms need to make up, it’s all of those different genres on the front page, which order to put the films in on each row, and what movies are similar to other titles. It’s not just some static list, either; Netflix says that it focuses on keeping results fresh and diversifying where and what order it recommends movies. If your entire household watches on the same account, movies tailored for different…

3DS guides to replace audio guides at the Louvre next year

LHOOQ

The AFP reports that France’s famous Louvre museum will begin replacing its traditional audio guides with 3DS consoles in March of 2012. Nintendo will give the museum 5,000 of its handhelds, which will run special software developed by the company.

The software will allow visitors to locate their position in the (very, very large) museum, as well as offering itineraries and, of course, traditional audio commentaries. The museum told the AFP that the move was made in order to better accommodate today’s museum goers, who are more accustomed to interacting with touch screens.

Frankly, we’re just hoping we can finally nab Leonardo da Vinci for our Mii Plaza.

Windows 7: Clean install with upgrade disc

Windows 7: Clean install with upgrade disc

Windows 7 Box Art

So you bought an upgrade copy of Windows 7 to save money or you got it for $30 with a student account. However, an upgrade is not cutting it for you and a clean install is just the thing you need. While the upgrade disc allows a clean install, you hit a roadblock with activation. At the SuperSite, Paul Thurrott, with the help of Kevin Fisher, has come up with the solution to activate Windows 7.

  1. Ensure there are no Windows Updates pending. To check for this, look for an orange shield icon next to the Shutdown button in the Start Menu. If it’s there, reboot.
  2. Open ‘regedit.exe’ from the Start Menu
  3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
  4. Change MediaBootInstall from ’1′ to ’0′
  5. Open the Start Menu again and type ‘cmd’ — use ctrl+shift+enter to run it as an administrator
  6. Type: slmgr /rearm – and press enter
  7. Reboot
  8. When Windows 7 reboots, run the Activate Windows utility and activate windows.
