Pentax K-30 announced: 16-megapixel weather-sealed DSLR for $849.95

Pentax K30 press image

We got wind of a new weather-resistant, entry-level DSLR from Pentax a few days ago thanks to a French retailer, and today the company has made things official with the announcement of the Pentax K-30. Featuring a 16-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with an ISO range that extends up to ISO 12800 (expandable to ISO 25600), the camera also features a 3-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 921,000 dots. The K-30 is capable of shooting 1080p video at 30, 25, or 24 frames per second — dropping the resolution down to 720p will boost you up to 60fps — but what Pentax is really touting is the weather-sealed body. Pentax K-30 weather-sealed entry-level DSLR revealed in French catalog?

Pentax K-30 weather-sealed entry-level DSLR revealed in French catalog?

pentax k-30 leak (pentaxone)

Pentax hasn’t released a DSLR in well over a year, instead choosing to concentrate on the mirrorless K-01, but it looks like the entry-level K-r could be getting a replacement soon enough. The listing also says that the camera can take AA batteries as well as a rechargeable pack, though it’s unclear if that refers to a K-r-style adapter or a built-in slot. It’ll apparently ship for €799.99 with an 18-55mm kit lens, and while there’s no release date listed we’d expect it to be coming soon enough if…

Nikon D3200 DSLR coming soon with 24-megapixel sensor and Wi-Fi?

Nikon D3200 DSLR coming soon with 24-megapixel sensor and Wi-Fi?

Nikon logo_1020

NikonRumors is reporting that Nikon will soon replace its entry-level D3100 DSLR, seemingly corroborated by the recent appearance of “Nikon D3200 for Dummies” guide books on Amazon. The D3200 is said to bump the sensor from 14 to 24 megapixels — if true, the sensor is probably the same Sony chip found in the NEX-7, A77, and A65, similar to how the D7000 and NEX-5n share a Sony sensor. The leaked specs also say that you’ll be able to capture four frames a second, one more than the D3100, and there are apparently unspecified improvements to video functionality along with a native ISO range of 100 to 6400.

Maybe most unusually for a DSLR, the D3200 is set to offer Wi-Fi connectivity. We’re starting to see Wi-Fi become more of a standard…
