Diet Coda for iPad and Coda 2 for OS X coming May 24th for your web coding needs

There’s no shortage of clever tools and editors for coding web pages on OS X, and one of the most attractive all-in-one options — Panic Software’s Coda — is getting a version 2 upgrade this week, along with an iPad version called Diet Coda. The Coda upgrade features a refreshed user interface, including a new scrolling tab bar for quick navigation, a newly-integrated CSS editor, and a MySQL editor built into the app itself. Even bigger news is the company’s new iPad app, Diet Coda. It offers a stripped-down version of the full Coda experience, bundling basic code editing, FTP capabilities, and the company’s SSH client into one package, all along with support for the new iPad’s Retina display. Diet Coda can also be used in…

‘Tekken: Rise of the Tournament’ coming from Ong-bak director Prachya Pinkaew

‘Tekken: Rise of the Tournament’ coming from Ong-bak director Prachya Pinkaew

A prequel to 2010′s straight-to-video/Netflix Tekken film has been announced by Crystal Sky Pictures CEO Steven Paul during this week’s Cannes Film Festival in France. Tekken: Rise of the Tournament is set to be directed by Prachya Pinkaew of Ong-bak and Chocolate fame – a martial arts pedigree that bodes better for the franchise than Tekken director Dwight H. Little’s resume of slasher flicks and Free Willy sequels.

No actors have been signed to the project as of yet, but Crystal Sky will be aiming at finding thespians that look like Tekken’s characters, rather than attaching big-name stars. The production company will be aiming for a theatrical release in North America, although nothing has actually been decided in terms of distribution.

In addition to Tekken: Rise of the Tournament, Crystal Sky Pictures is in the post-production stages of a Baby Geniuses trilogy and is also set to begin production on Dracula: The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Can’t make this stuff up.

Time Warner confirms HBO Go coming to Xbox 360 and Roku today

Time Warner confirms HBO Go coming to Xbox 360 and Roku today

HBO Go

Yesterday a report surfaced that the HBO Go streaming service would be available to Time Warner customers on both the Roku and Xbox 360, and now Time Warner has confirmed that this is the case. The app should be available to subscribers on all three platforms at some point today — Time Warner says that it could take “a few hours” before everyone has access. While the HBO Go app originally launched on the 360 back in March, the streaming service previously wasn’t available to Time Warner subscribers. However, the cable service’s customers have been able to use the app via a Samsung Smart TV since early this year. The app should be available to all subscribers by tonight, so if you don’t see it yet be sure to check back later in the day….

‘iPad mini’ coming this fall, report claims

‘iPad mini’ coming this fall, report claims

Apple iPad Mini Launch Rumor

Analysts for Barclays said in a note to investors that a new 7-inch iPad will be released this fall, Business Insider reported on Wednesday. “Following up on comments made last week, recent research still leads us to believe that Apple may be planning to add another form factor to its iPad line in the 7″ range for the fall,” the note read. The banking firm states that a smaller iPad would be useful in promoting Apple’s education agenda and could also help the company’s gaming efforts. Rather than sullying the iPad brand and iOS ecosystem, Barclays states that a “lower priced iPad [is] a necessary entry point to make the tablet market the size of the PC market by 2015 in terms of units (over 350 million units) – a figure CEO Tim Cook repeatedly mentions.” Apple has long been rumored to be readying a 7.85-inch iPad mini to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet. The slate is expected to be priced between $ 249 and $ 299, and could launch as soon as the third quarter of 2012.

The Batmobile from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is coming to a town near you

The Batmobile from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is coming to a town near you

batmobile (tumbler tour)

Can’t quite wait for The Dark Knight Rises? You may have to settle for checking out a part of the movie in person ahead of its July 20th release date. The Tumbler, the tank-like incarnation of the Batmobile seen in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy of Batman movies, is going on tour around the US over the next couple of months. From photos posted on the Tumbler Tour blog (hosted at, er, Tumblr) it doesn’t look like you’ll be able to ride in it or even touch it, but it might be as close as Bat-fans get to scratching their Dark Knight itch. A list of dates is below, though more are scheduled to be added.

  • 5/15 Tulsa, OK
  • 5/19 Overland Park, KS
  • 5/21 Kansas City, MO
  • 5/23 St. Louis, MO
  • 5/25 Chicago, IL

Nvidia’s integrated LTE chipset slips to 2013, Tegra 3 + LTE smartphones coming ‘end of year’

Nvidia’s integrated LTE chipset slips to 2013, Tegra 3 + LTE smartphones coming ‘end of year’

Tegra 3 chip

Nvidia reported its first-quarter earnings today, but the most interesting part arguably wasn’t the $ 60 million in profit or $ 924 million in revenue the company brought in. Rather, it was CEO Jen-Hsun Huang’s disclosure that the company’s hotly-anticipated Tegra processor with built-in LTE connectivity, codename “Grey,” won’t be ready until next year.

Last quarter, Huang told investors that the company would be shipping integrated modems this year, but on today’s call, the chief executive pushed back that schedule a bit:

“Looking forward, you’ll see Tegra 3 LTE phones with partners’ baseband processors in the second half of this year and then next year with our own LTE baseband processors as well.”

We’d previously heard from Tegra GM…

HBO confirms Android Go and MAX Go apps for tablets coming this summer

HBO confirms Android Go and MAX Go apps for tablets coming this summer

HBO Go for Android

Last week HBO updated its Go and MAX Go apps for Android to support version 4.0. The popular streaming apps had previously only worked with Android devices running the Gingerbread version of the operating system, so the update was a welcome one for those with newer devices.

Unfortunately, at the time there was still no support for Android tablets. Android Community contacted an HBO representative today, who confirmed that tablet versions of the apps are indeed in the pipe and should appear “early this summer.” The rep said that the new version of the apps will include support for “most” Android tablets, including the Kindle Fire.

Rumor: Kinect-enabled Internet Explorer browser coming to Xbox 360

Rumor: Kinect-enabled Internet Explorer browser coming to Xbox 360

Good news: the Xbox 360 will finally have a web browser in the near future, according to a Verge source. Bad news: It’s Internet Explorer.

The source tells The Verge that the new web browser is based on Internet Explorer 9, and features Kinect functionality, allowing users to search with voice input just like the Bing search tech used in the current dashboard. Users will also be able to browse the web without talking to it, reportedly.

Pocket 4.1 for iOS adds pagination and improved video support, Android updates coming soon

Pocket 4.1 for iOS adds pagination and improved video support, Android updates coming soon

pocket 1020

Less than a month ago, Read It Later rebranded as Pocket, adding a much-needed redesign from the ground up in the process, and while it was a huge improvement, we were disappointed by the lack of pagination. The 4.1 update available now for iPhone and iPad adds pagination (“Page Flipping mode”), a revised Dark theme, and larger font size options. The app has had a solid run in its new form; the team boasts over 2 million downloads since launch, and over 5 million total users. You’ll also find improved video support with TED, Khan Academy, and Devour now auto-detected. Android and Kindle Fire users aren’t left completely out; the 4.1 update is “coming in just a few days.”

ZTE Nova V8000 coming to Cricket this summer with Android 4.0 (hands-on photos)

ZTE Nova V8000 coming to Cricket this summer with Android 4.0 (hands-on photos)

Gallery Photo: ZTE Nova V8000 hands-on photos

Amidst a relative dearth of newly announced handsets here at CTIA wireless 2012, ZTE is showing off a low-end Android 4.0 handset that the company says is headed to Cricket. ZTE calls it the “Nova 4.0 V8000,” but we would expect that when it launches Cricket will have some input on the final name. In any case, it has a 4-inch WVGA screen, 8-megapixel camera around back, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of ROM, and runs on a single-core Qualcomm S2 processor clocked at 1.4GHz. It’s a relatively small handset overall, but the hefty 1900mAh battery puts it on the thick side — however you can probably assume that the combination of the processor, small screen, and 3G radio will make for some pretty impressive battery life.

The spec card with the phone…
