Android and iOS see continued growth in Q4 as BlackBerry, Windows and Symbian slide

ComScore released its most recent U.S. Mobile Subscriber Market Share report for the three-month period ending in December, 2011. The research firm found that Samsung remained the top mobile phone vendor in the fourth quarter with a 25.3% market share — the same share as it held in the third quarter. LG’s market share dropped 0.6 percentage points to a 20% share for second place followed by Motorola, which fell 0.5 percentage points to 13.3%. BlackBerry 7 devices gain government approval in U.S. and Canada

Research In Motion’s latest BlackBerry 7 devices has=ve been granted Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC). BlackBerry users are older and wealthier than average smartphone users, study suggests

BlackBerry owners tend to be older and wealthier than other smartphone users according to a new report released this week. Data from comScore Data Mine suggests BlackBerry users are “more likely to have a household greater than $ 75,000 when compared to average smartphone owners.” BlackBerry owners were also more likely to have at least part of all of their monthly mobile bill paid for by their employers. BlackBerry PlayBook and EVO View 4G to be phased out at Sprint

Sprint has updated the company’s end-of-life list to include two of its tablets. Shipments of the carrier’s BlackBerry Playbook and HTC EVO View 4G will come to a halt and supplies will run down within the coming weeks, according to the EOL list obtained by SprintFeed. Both tablets will be phased out by the end of of January, possibly leading to the announcement of an LTE tablet from the Overland Park-based company. Apple’s iOS and BlackBerry most popular mobile platforms among IT pros

Apple’s iOS operating system is the most popular mobile platform among corporate workers according to a survey from Check Point Software. The firm polled over 700 IT professionals and found that iOS accounts for 30% of usage, with RIM’s BlackBerry platform just behind at 29%. Check Point Software found that 71% of mobile devices have contributed to increased security incidents. iPhone, iPad owners see glass half full while BlackBerry users are down in the dumps

In what is certainly one of the most bizarre mobile-related studies we’ve seen published in recent months, a new survey found that iPhone and iPad owners are generally very optimistic relative to owners of other handsets and tablets. The most pessimistic mobile users, according to the same survey, are BlackBerry owners.
