It’s been a long time coming, but the Archos G9 series of tablets are finally being upgraded to Android 4.0. This over-the-air update will roll starting today, so start checking your notification area furiously to see when its your turn. As we saw back at CES, this update should bring a fairly clean version of Ice Cream Sandwich to all devices in the Archos G9 range, including the original 80 and 109 G9 tablets as well as the more recently-released “turbo” variants. Tablet company Archos has just announced what may be the cheapest mainstream tablet we’ve seen yet: the Archos Child Pad, a $ 129 device with a 7-inch screen and Android 4.0. The Child Pad looks very similar to the $ 199 70b Honeycomb tablet, but the specs are a bit different — you’ll get a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. It’s not clear how much storage or what kind of screen it includes, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it had the same 1024 x 600 capacitive display as the 70b.

Archos says it’s also made some tweaks to Ice Cream Sandwich for the Child Pad, adding a custom skin, some pre-loaded games like Angry Birds, and stronger parental controls. The tablet will start shipping at the end of March. Archos doesn’t have the best track…
