Amazon reports $17.4B in revenue, sales up 35% but misses Street estimates

Amazon on Tuesday reported $ 17.4 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter. While its net sales were up 35% from the $ 12.95 billion reported during the fourth quarter of last year, the company missed analyst estimates of $ 18.26 billion in revenue for the quarter. PS Vita 3G purchases include free data, 8GB memory card at Amazon

PS Vita 3G purchases include free data, 8GB memory card at Amazon

If you have already pre-ordered, or were planning to pre-order, the $ 300 PS Vita with wi-fi and 3G support from Amazon, you’re privy to some extra bonuses. The unit now ships with a crucial 8GB memory card, a free month of “DataConnect” 3G access (or 250MB, whichever comes first, a $ 15 value) and, as part of signing up for the DataConnect service, a free PSN game.

Right now, Amazon is the only place we’ve seen this specific offer. We’re checking in with Sony to determine whether this offer applies to 3G/wi-fi Vitas sold elsewhere. However, it’s a sticker on the box art shown on Amazon (above). That doesn’t look retailer-specific.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus now just $99.99 from Amazon

Samsung Galaxy Nexus now just $99.99 from Amazon

The world’s first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich-powered smartphone is currently on sale at a huge discount from retail giant Amazon. The company’s wireless arm is currently offering Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone for as little as $ 99.99 with a new Verizon Wireless contract, and Amazon is even throwing in free two-day shipping for good measure. This is the lowest price we’ve seen for Samsung’s sleek pure Google phone, and it is only available while supplies last according to an Amazon spokesperson. BGR reviewed the Galaxy Nexus this past November and we called it our favorite Android device in the world at that time. The handset features a massive 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display with HD 720p resolution, 4G LTE, a 5-megapixel camera and

Kindle Fire demand cooling off? Amazon sales charts say otherwise

Kindle Fire demand cooling off? Amazon sales charts say otherwise

Following what Amazon reported to have been a huge holiday season for the company’s debut tablet, demand for the Kindle Fire has slowed according to new claims. Citing unnamed sources from within Amazon’s component supply chain, DigiTimes on Friday stated that Amazon’s tablet orders with original device manufacturers have been cut in half from roughly 6 million tablets in the fourth quarter last year to 3 million units this quarter. The Kindle Fire had a hot holiday season so a drop-off in orders is expected in the quarter that follows, though it is unclear if a 50% decrease in device orders is industry standard. What is clear, however, is that Amazon — one of the largest electronics retailers in the

Amazon receives high marks for customer service while Zappos falls in 2011

Amazon receives high marks for customer service while Zappos falls in 2011

Amazon received the highest customer service ratings of any retailer in 2011 according to the NRF Foundations Customers’ Choice survey. The survey, which asked more than 9,000 shoppers which retailer provides the best customer service, was conducted by BIGresearch. In 2011, Amazon gained one spot to become the top-ranked retailer while the company’s subsidiary Zappos, which was previously ranked No.1, fell to No.3. Coming in behind Amazon was L.L.Bean, gaining a spot from 2010 rank to come in at No.2, with Overstock, QVC, Kohl’s, Lands’ End, JCPenney, Newegg and Nordstrom rounding out the top-10. Read

Amazon discounts select PS3 peripherals, active games

Amazon discounts select PS3 peripherals, active games

We don’t mean these games will make you start taking hikes or playing bocce ball in the park or something. These are games Amazon has classified as active — they require more input from the player than simply mashing a button or d-pad. Sometimes you have to, like, stand up to play these games.

Amazon’s discounting Just Dance 3, the LittleBigPlanet 2 Move bundle, Zumba Fitness … and Rocksmith? Rocking out counts as activity, we guess. There are also discounts on Kinect and the Wii Cyberbike. Oh, and PS3 accessories have been incongruously mixed into the list. You can pick up some 3D glasses, in case Santa dropped one of those 3D displays down your chimney this year.

Crysis 2 for $10 today, Battlefield 3 for $30 tomorrow through Amazon for PC

Crysis 2 for $10 today, Battlefield 3 for $30 tomorrow through Amazon for PC

$ 10 will buy a lot of missiles

In addition to Amazon’s EA sale going on now through its PC digital distribution network, there are a couple noteworthy additions to the roster today and tomorrow. Today, Crysis 2 is available for $ 10, a 75 percent discount off the regular price.

Starting 2012 with a flashbang, Amazon will have Battlefield 3 for $ 30 on the first of the year. Also relevant here is customers who have purchased anything from Amazon’s “best-selling games of 2011″ should have a $ 5 coupon that can be applied in the new year, bringing it down to $ 25. That’s a great price for a game that’s been beta-tested since launch to the point of playability.
