Nintendo’s got more than a few ways to watch its E3 2012 press conference

Nintendo’s got more than a few ways to watch its E3 2012 press conference

Image

What will you be doing on June 5 at noon ET? Nintendo sure hopes your answer to that question revolves around its impending E3 2012 press conference, and it’s got a whole bevy of options should that be the case. Beyond partnering with Viacom to broadcast the show live (and commercial-free) on Spike TV and MTV2 (there’s still an MTV2?!?!), Nintendo will offer the conference via internet on its usual E3 site.

Nintendo’s E3 presentation this year will focus on its next home console, the Wii U, though we’ll no doubt hear a few new nuggets about the 3DS. As always, we’re hoping for a triumphant return from Ravi Drums. Don’t keep breaking our hearts, Nintendo! Let Mr. Drums free!

Sony and Microsoft are also streaming their respective press conferences; more info can be found on each here and here.

Nvidia Kepler Cloud GPU stock 1024

Nvidia’ 2012 GPU Technology Conference (GTC) conference brought the usual array of graphics processors, but the company is trying its hand at something new: putting the power of those processors in the cloud. I Am Alive tops April 2012 PSN downloads; Escape Plan still atop PS Vita list

I Am Alive tops April 2012 PSN downloads; Escape Plan still atop PS Vita list

The full PlayStation downloads list for April – as opposed to the sneak peek we got thanks to Pulse earlier this month, where the list is not segregated by platform – has been released and Ubisoft’s I Am Alive was indeed the top download. On the PS3 and PSN list, thatgamecompany’s Journey followed Ubisoft’s long-awaited title. Reverge Labs’ debut Skullgirls managed to snag the third spot.

On the PS Vita side, Escape Plan continued to dominate – no surprise since there’s not much else for the PS Vita right now, though that changes today. Modern Warfare 3‘s Content Collection #1 drop on PSN also did well, topping out the PS3 add-on category. Finally, Final Fantasy VII was the top PSOne Classic, but then again you already knew that because it’s always Final Fantasy VII.

Ubisoft profits in 2012, ‘core gamers’ drive rise in sales

Ubisoft profits in 2012, ‘core gamers’ drive rise in sales

Image

Ubisoft ended the 2012 financial year on the up, reporting a gross profit of €718 million ($ 917 million) and sales up 2.1 percent to €1 billion ($ 1.4 billion) year-over-year, according to its financial results for 2011-2012.

Ubisoft ended fiscal 2011-12 with net income of €37.3 million ($ 47.6 million), up from a net loss of €52.1 million ($ 66.5 million) in the 2011 fiscal year.

Sales from “core gamers” in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Rayman Origins, Driver San Francisco and free-to-play title The Settlers Online generated €578 million ($ 738.1 million) in revenue, Ubisoft reported. Casual games brought in €483 million ($ 616.8 million) in revenue, mainly from Just Dance, Rocksmith and free-to-play title Howrse.

Core and casual titles contributed to a 110.8 percent jump in online and digital sales, bringing that figure to €80 million ($ 102.1 million), Ubisoft reported.

Ubisoft’s net cash position is down from €99.2 million ($ 126.6 million) in 2011 to €84.6 million ($ 108 million) in 2012, while current operating income rose 90 percent to €56 million ($ 71.5 million) year-over-year.

Lenovo announces 2012 ThinkPad lineup, including Ivy Bridge and revamped keyboards

Lenovo announces 2012 ThinkPad lineup, including Ivy Bridge and revamped keyboards

Lenovo has refreshed their entire ThinkPad lineup for 2012, bringing Intel’s 3rd-generation Core processors to bear on their business-centric hardware. Lenovo’s entire refreshed lineup packs Intel’s Ivy Bridge CPUs, USB 3.0, and the company’s new Thinkpad Precision Keyboard.

We had a chance to get some hands-on time with these machines recently, and the revamped keyboard doesn’t disappoint. It offers the comfortable, accurate typing experience we’ve come to expect from Lenovo’s wares, coupled with optional backlighting. Lenovo is also including the latest version of their Enhanced Experience platform — version 3.0 adds the latest iteration of Lenovo’s RapidBoot and BootShield technologies, which promises to keep boot times under 30…

Square Enix sees 6 billion yen profit in fiscal 2012 thanks to Deus Ex, FFXIII-2

Square Enix sees 6 billion yen profit in fiscal 2012 thanks to Deus Ex, FFXIII-2

Square Enix’s financial results for fiscal 2012 have been posted, and thanks to the releases of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Final Fantasy XIII-2, the developer has ended the year in the black, to the tune of a ¥6.06 billion (or $ 75.9 million) profit.

Total income from sales for the fiscal year, which for Square Enix ran from April 2011 through March 2012, totaled up to ¥127.89 billion ($ 1.6 billion) – a 2.1 percent year-over-year increase. After subtracting taxes and operating costs, the company was left with over ¥6 billion in profit, which must be welcome news for stockholders still feeling the sting from Square Enix’s ¥12.04 billion ($ 150.86 million) loss in fiscal 2011.

“In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012, we continued our efforts aimed at increasing profitability, including establishing best practices for the content in said growth areas, improving quality of our major online game, and strengthening our global structure,” said Square Enix president Yoichi Wada in a statement accompanying the financial report. “We are accelerating the reformation to generate a substantial earnings improvement in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013 and beyond.”
