With the netbook market increasing rapidly, Toshiba knows there is no time to waste with the announcement of two new CULV models. Headed to the Japanese market, the 13.3-inch MX/43 and 11.6-inch MX/33 both take advantage of Windows 7  Home Premium. As far as specs go, the MX/43 offers 13.3-inch LCD screen with a 1,366×768 resolution, Intel GS45 Express chip set, Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and 10.5 hours of battery life. The MX/43 also packs 3 USB slots, an HDMI port, and an SD/memory stick slot. With the MX/33, Toshiba kept the specs similar except for an 11.6-inch screen, a 1.3GHz Celeron 743 processor, and a shorter battery life at 9.5 hours. Available October 22, pricing for the MX/43 will $1330 and $1000 for the MX/33.

With the help of AT&T, the Nokia Booklet 3G won’t cost you more than $299. Oh, did we forget to mention that price will only hold true with a two year contract at $60 a month. If you feel that $60 a month is a bit too much, AT&T does have other rate plans and prices coming soon. Launching October 22, exclusively at Best Buy,  the Nokia Booklet 3G will also be available at a $599 price tag if you don’t need the data plan.

When details about Windows 7 came out, Microsoft had clear limits for netbooks that allowed only the Starter version in which users can have only three applications running at a time. However, Microsoft has finally come to their senses and will allow OEMs to ship netbooks with any version of Windows 7. Microsoft has also removed the unpopular three app limit from the Starter version of the OS.

“OEMs and ODMs have the choice to install any version of Windows on a netbook,” said a Microsoft UK spokesperson. “[But] Starter is an entry version and doesn’t have many of the consumer or business features. The three application limit isn’t there anymore.”

With the debut of the Mini 311, HP is the first to market with an NVIDIA’s Ion powered netbook. The netbook boasts a screen resolution of 1,366 x 768 on an 11.6-inch HD display. Shipping with Windows XP, the Mini 311 packs an Atom processor, 160GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, webcam, and wireless networking. To get your hands on this netbook, you’ll need to shell out $400.

After six months of holding out, Sony has finally came to their sense and released a netbook, the Sony VAIO W. This system is being released in Japan with a 10.1 inch screen (1366 x 768 resolution), 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of Ram, 160GB HDD (5400rpm), and runs Windows XP. This netbook also features wireless N, A2DP stereo Bluetooth, and a pair of USB ports. Price is still unknown, but we don’t expect it to be north of $500.

Discovered back in May, the Lenovo IdeaPad s12 is finally available for pre order. The netbook has an Intel 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, Intel GMA950 chipset, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 160/250/320GB HDD options, an optional 6-cell battery, and a screen size of 12.1-inch that offers WXGA resolution of (1,280 x 800). This netbook also has an Ethernet jack, WiFi, three USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth, a 4-in-1 card reader, an ExpressCard slot, and VGA / HDMI outputs. All these features don’t come cheap on a netbook, so expect to pay $499 for the base configuration.

Although netbooks are typically OK looking, the HP Mini 5101 takes it up a notch and shows netbooks can look professional. Aimed at the “mobile professional,” this netbook will carry a chassis made of aluminum and magnesium. As far as specs go, they are fairly similar to most netbooks out there with a 7200 RPM 80GB hard drive or a 128GB SSD drive, 2 megapixel webcam, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 10.1-inch LED screen that comes with the option of WSVGA (1024 x 600) or HD (1366 x 768). The Mini 5101 also come with the option of four-cell or six-cell batteries and WWAN. Hitting stores late July, expect this netbook to start at $449.

The NB205, Toshiba’s latest offering in the netbook space, is now available to order. Being offered in two models, the cheaper one, which will cost $349, comes in black only and is made of cheaper materials. Pay $399 and you get a choice of four colors, chiclet-style keyboard, and quality materials. Standard on both netbooks, you will find the Atom N280, a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. Battery life comes in at an impressive 9 hours powered by a standard six-cell battery.

The latest offering in the netbook space is a bit different from Gateway. In its latest model the LT3100, Gateway decides to ditch Intel’s Atom processor and instead go with AMD’s 1.2GHz Athlon 64 L110. The netbook also carries an integrated ATI Radeon X1270 with WXGA resolution of 1366×768. Other specs include a screen size that comes in at 11.6-inches, 2GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive, 802.11b/g, three USB 2.0 ports, webcam, card reader, and a 6-cell Li-ion battery. The LT3100 also leaves Windows XP behind and packs Windows Vista Basic. Coming in at $400, the LT3100 will be available soon with a color choice of NightSky Black or Cherry Red.

An option that was said to be in the configuration of the Inspiron Mini 10 from day 1, finally shows up a few months later. Available today, you can choose to upgrade the LCD panel on the Mini 10 to a 720p with a resolution of 1,366 x 768. The upgrade only costs $35, so we don’t see why you wouldn’t pick it over the standard 1024×576 resolution. Still to come are the promised GPS and TV Tuner.
